Ubisoft backs Wemix Network, a crypto-gaming network
Ubisoft, the creator of Assassin’s Creed, is backing Wemix Network, a crypto gaming network. It has the support of 39 additional node council partners. Wemix Network disclosed the aforementioned information. The development comes in the wake of the upcoming network, Wemix 3.0. That is an EVM blockchain that is compatible with Ethereum.
Ubisoft is now tasked with validating the blockchain. The game creator is the 26th Wonder out of a total of 40 Wonders. Wemix Network has yet to announce additional node council partners.
What makes Wemix an ideal candidate for Ubisoft is the combination of Proof of Stake and Proof of Authority mechanisms that it deploys. Known as the Proof-of-Stake Authority consensus algorithm, the mechanism rolls out crypto rewards for partners whose machines handle the work.
This is not the first blockchain gaming partnership for Ubisoft. It partnered with the Hedera blockchain in 2022 and then with the Cronos blockchain in 2023. Exploring crypto and blockchain gaming has been on the agenda for a long time now. However, it momentarily met with criticism from the community, members of which cited embracing crypto tech as a reason. There was a considerable backlash right from the time when Ubisoft embarked on a journey to add free in-game NFTs to its game, titled Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Eventually, exploration fetched desirable results. Ubisoft has now teased the launch of Champions Tactics. Its actual live date is yet to be announced, but Ubisoft has already launched the title’s first free NFT mint. Moving forward, Ubisoft has committed to work on exploring video game dialogues that are generated by artificial intelligence (AI).
Wemix Network is simultaneously exploring ways to increase engagement with the community. The most recent attempt is through a campaign with a prize pool of 13,000 USD. The tournament is in association with Ballies and commits to rolling out bigger rewards along with unforgettable battles and thrilling gameplay.
As for partnerships, Wemix Network has announced joining hands with Crypto Rogue Games. The partnership with CRG aims to bring RPG Crystals of Naramuz to the native ecosystem. The action title is set against the backdrop of a post-apocalyptic world that is filled with ruins and dungeons.
The partnership between Ubisoft and Wemix Network is something to look out for. Every title the network comes out with or any other player in the market will directly compete with some of the biggest games coming in 2024. This includes Star Wars Outlaws and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth, among others.
The integration of blockchain technology and the gaming industry is gaining market traction. This is primarily due to the fact that developers fund their innovations with in-game assets that can be purchased, sold, or transferred within gaming environments or marketplaces. Native token rewards for participants are accelerating the widespread adoption of the concept and technology.
